Location: Hybrid role based in Johannesburg
Purpose
Join Ocean Basket’s Academy as an Instructional Designer to create engaging and effective learning experiences for our crew. This role is crucial for crew growth, combining instructional design, adult learning theory, and creative content for digital and instructor-led solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and Develop SCORM-compliant e-learning modules, incorporating interactive activities and assessments
- Manage the LMS platform, ensuring content is current, user access is maintained, and learning data is accurately tracked and reported
- Liaise with LMS suppliers to resolve technical issues, implement updates, and optimize platform functionality
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure content accuracy, translate material into visually engaging course content, and align training with business needs.
- Apply adult learning theories and instructional design models to ensure the effectiveness of content
- Drive data-driven continuous improvement initiatives by reporting on retention and transfer, analyzing learner feedback and performance metrics, and conducting research to define measurable learning outcomes
- Create storyboards, scripts, and prototypes for various multimedia learning materials, visualizing the user interface, instructional graphics, and the final product
- Develop supporting media such as audio, video, simulations, role plays, and games
- Stay current with industry standards, instructional design trends, and emerging digital learning technologies
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation and course folders
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of SCORM standards and LMS functionality
- Familiarity with LMS platforms (e.g., Moodle, TalentLMS, or Blackboard)
- Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
- Video filming and editing skills
- Visual design skills using tools like Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or similar
- Ability to storyboard and write effective copy and instructional text
- Basic HTML and Flash programming knowledge is advantageous
- A data-driven mindset
- Excellent communication and team collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Requirements
- A B.A. degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a similar field
- 2-4 years of experience in e-learning content design and development
- Proven experience in creating digital and blended learning materials (e-learning, videos, workbooks, simulations, etc.)
- Experience in learning facilitation, lesson, and curriculum planning
- Experience with course development software such as Articulate Storyline or Rise

Location: Role available in Cape Town
Purpose
Train and support our new and existing crew, developing and delivering high-impact sushi training across Ocean Basket
Responsibilities
- Train crew on all aspects of the OB sushi way – from knife skills to plating perfection
- Support new store openings and revamps by training crew and ensuring readiness
- Coach teams on new menu items and follow up on execution and quality
- Conduct store visits, assess standards, and provide on-the-spot training where needed
- Collaborate with the Learning & Development team to create and refine training content
- Lead or support other trainers depending on your level of experience
- Uphold hygiene, food safety, and compliance across all training activities
Skills
- A passion for coaching and sharing your skills with others
- Strong technical skills in sushi
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and a love for quality and consistency
- Confident working across multiple locations and teams
Requirements
- Minimum 3-5 years sushi preparation experience in hospitality or QSR (Required)
- A valid driver’s license and your own transport (Required)
- Leadership or team coaching experience (Required)
- Knowledge of SOPs, audits, and quality standards (Required)
- Experience designing or delivering training content (Advantageous)
- Exposure to multi-location or franchise environments (Advantageous)

The Business Manager supports the CEO in driving the business forward by turning strategy into action, keeping projects on track, and ensuring alignment across teams to enable continued growth.
Responsibilities
- Drive Strategy: Support the CEO in executing strategic initiatives, track performance, and provide insights for informed decisions
- Coordinate the Business: Organise CEO and Exco meetings, manage reports, and maintain governance and accountability
- Manage Communication: Act as a trusted link with stakeholders, prepare updates and presentations, and handle sensitive information professionally
- Ensure Operational Efficiency: Oversee CEO priorities, resolve operational bottlenecks, and coordinate key events and leadership sessions

- Experience in restaurant, retail, or franchising environments preferred
